- I’m new to plastic modeling. Is the Ultimate Nipper suitable for beginners?
- Yes. As long as you follow the proper handling instructions, the Ultimate Nipper is suitable even for beginners.
Because it produces an exceptionally clean cut, there is usually little need for additional gate cleanup with a file or hobby knife.
It is also highly recommended for modelers who mainly build kits straight from the box without painting or other finishing work.
- Can I use it to cut plastic sheets or other flat materials?
- No. This product is specifically designed for cutting plastic model gates and runners. Do not use it to cut plastic sheets, runner tags, or other flat materials.
In particular, cutting material wider than the length of the blade greatly increases the risk of blade breakage.
Use it only for cutting rod-shaped plastic materials with a diameter of Φ3 mm or less.
- Can I use it to cut clear parts?
- Clear and translucent PS resin is generally harder than standard PS resin, so please use the Ultimate Nipper only for gates with a diameter of Φ1 mm or less.
Within this range, it can produce a clean, smooth cut.
Do not cut clear or translucent runners, or thick gates exceeding Φ1 mm in diameter, as these exceed the cutting capacity of the tool.
- Does it require regular maintenance?
- Yes. During and after use, remove cutting debris frequently with a toothbrush, blade brush, or similar tool.
If debris enters the moving parts or remains on the blades for an extended period, it may cause the tool to malfunction.
After use, we also recommend applying a small amount of lubricant, such as tool oil or sewing machine oil, to the moving parts.
This helps reduce looseness in the joint, which can otherwise lead to reduced cutting performance, and also helps prevent rust.
To keep your Ultimate Nipper in good condition for as long as possible, please perform regular maintenance.
For routine care, apply an appropriate amount of rust-preventive oil or lubricant as needed.
- I’m left-handed. Will it be difficult to use?
- The Ultimate Nipper is a single-edged nipper designed primarily for right-handed use.
When held in the right hand, the cutting edge is positioned on top and the blunt edge on the bottom.
When held in the left hand, the positions of the cutting edge and blunt edge are reversed, which may feel less natural to use.
We also offer the Ultimate Nipper SPN-120-L, a left-handed model in which the positions of the cutting edge and blunt edge are reversed.
- My Ultimate Nipper looks slightly different from the product photos on this website. Why?
- Each Ultimate Nipper is individually hand-finished by skilled craftsmen.
During production, if we identify an area that can be further improved, we may make minor changes without prior notice.
As a result, the shape or certain specifications of the product you receive may differ slightly from the product images shown on this website. Thank you for your understanding.
- I’m worried about breaking the blade, so I’m hesitant to use it.
- The Ultimate Nipper is certainly a delicate, precision tool, but it is designed not to break under normal use when handled correctly.
There is no need to be overly concerned. Please follow the precautions and use the tool properly.
- There is a gap between the blade-protection stopper and the inside of the handle when the jaws are closed. Should I adjust it myself?
- No adjustment is necessary. This is normal.
Each Ultimate Nipper is inspected and adjusted by a skilled craftsman before leaving the factory, so a certain amount of clearance between the blade-protection stopper and the inside of the handle does not affect normal use.
When the handles are squeezed firmly, they flex slightly. As the applied force approaches the limit that the blade can safely withstand, the stopper contacts the inside of the handle and prevents the handles from closing any further, helping reduce the risk of blade chipping or breakage.
- The nipper does not spring all the way back to its maximum opening. Is the spring too weak?
- No. This is not related to the strength of the spring.
The automatic opening range of the nipper is adjusted through the tightness of the pivot joint.
At the factory, each Ultimate Nipper is adjusted so that, when it springs open, there is sufficient opening to cut a plastic rod up to Φ3 mm in diameter using the center portion of the blades.
Therefore, even if the nipper does not automatically return to its maximum possible opening, it is considered normal as long as it opens sufficiently to meet the standard described above.
